Talk about a discovery!!!!!
Well to start I decide to simply ride my bike down the road by my house. I was planning on just going down a ways and coming back because we didn't have any bike trails or hiking trails near us ...so I thought.
I have driven by a sign near a pond / marsh area everyday since we have moved hear. The sign says "Whitney Lake Marsh Wildlife Refgue". I decided to turn into this area just to have a look. I saw a paved path heading to the back. I rode on it and found a 1/2 mile paved path going back in the almost dry marsh area!!! It had benchs for walkers along the way and wooden bridges over the marsh.
The birds are starting to migrate back here....we live in south Texas near Corpus Christi and our area is a big winter migration area. I saw Heron and even a flamingo, plus so many more birds. When we get some rain It will fill back up and be beautiful.
What surprised me the most is this area is only about a mile from my house...practically in my back yard and I didin't even know about it!
Overall I did a short bike ride...only 3 miles, but I really enjoyed it and will be back there many more times!
